We’re all familiar with the feeling of a never-ending school day – students may seem tired or disinterested and it feels like nothing is getting through. One way to energize the group is to increase class participation. Individual dry erase boards – or, lapboards – allow each student to engage without leaving their desks.

Affordable and compact, lapboards come in a variety of styles: traditional blank whiteboards are versatile and can be used in lessons from geography to science; XY axis boards are perfect for math classes; and lined lapboards offer an economical way for students to practice spelling and penmanship. Other varieties include chalkboard lapboards and magnetic lapboards.

Most individual dry erase boards are 12 by nine inches, but teachers also love our dry erase paddles; they offer a new way to answer questions that gets students excited.

I would use the lap boards during reading to allow my students to practice writing their sight words and writing the room. They would be useful during Math large group instruction when the problem of the day is posted and they can each solve the problem on their own. Lastly, I would use it during science to support the students thinking by creating pictures and diagrams to build upon their thinking. The lap boards are an amazing tool that my students and I would enjoy in the classroom.
